WaveformMatcher
Match video to audio waveforms and export ready-to-import FCPXML
WaveformMatcher solves a familiar post-production problem: syncing double-system audio (a separate WAV recorder) back to camera footage, at scale, without manually clapping every slate.
Drop in video clips and WAV files, and the app compares audio fingerprints — or embedded timecode, when it’s available — to find sync points automatically. Review and adjust in Manual Sync mode if needed, then export a ready-to-import FCPXML as either individual Sync Clips or grouped Multicam clips, with frame-accurate angle placement and full FCP metadata (reel, scene, shot, camera angle, keywords) round-tripped from the source.
The app installs a native Final Cut Pro Workflow Extension, so Events and Timelines can be dragged straight out of Final Cut Pro into WaveformMatcher, and generated results can be sent right back with Send To Final Cut Pro. Project state — clips, settings, match results — saves and restores from a .wmproj file.
An experimental Detect Slate guide mode goes a step further, scanning for likely slate-visible ranges and visual/audio clap candidates to speed up review on productions that still shoot a clapperboard.
Capabilities
Waveform matching
Compares audio fingerprints between video and WAV files to find sync points automatically.
Timecode alignment
Aligns clips using embedded media timecode when available.
Manual sync mode
Distinct video/audio In-point controls with optional Auto Lock, unlock-to-adjust, and Undo.
Export modes
Sync Clips — one <sync-clip> per matched pair — or Multicam, one <multicam> per WAV with all matching cameras as angles.
Metadata round-trip
Round-trips FCP studio tags — reel, scene, shot, camera angle, keywords — from source FCPXML.
Auto Speed
One-click button calculates playback speed from recorded frame rate metadata (recFPS ÷ timelineFPS).
Detect Slate guide
Experimental detector finds likely slate visible ranges and visual/audio clap candidates for review.
Final Cut Pro Workflow Extension
Accepts direct Event/Timeline drag-and-drop from Final Cut Pro, plus dropped .fcpxml / .fcpxmld files.
